After mounting an astonishing comeback to advance to the next stage of the Europa League on Thursday night, Gladbach are on the up and have an excellent opportunity to continue in that vein on Sunday. The visitors will surely be confident of improving their league standing when they travel to face lowly Ingolstadt at Audi Sportpark.

Since the arrival of Dieter Hecking, Gladbach have put their poor start to the season behind them and are once again looking a force to be reckoned with. The Rhineland club have found their scoring touch and, just as they have over the last few seasons, are playing attractive, attacking football – not exactly something that can be said of Ingolstadt right now.

At odds of 19/10 and 2/1 respectively, ‘Mönchengladbach to Win’ and ‘Mönchengladbach to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ are the two angles of attack ahead of this fixture.

This might be the second away trip for Hecking’s men in four days; however, after their exploits on the continent, they should be full of confidence. On top of this, the visitors face an Ingolstadt side who’re finding life very tough and they really ought to have enough about them to come out on top.

Playing at home has yielded little joy for Ingolstadt this season. With just two wins to their name at Audi Sportpark, Maik Walpurgis’ side currently have the worst home-record in the entire division. They may well have beaten a decent-looking Frankfurt team last time out, but they certainly had luck on their side, that’s for sure. It would be a big surprise if they replicated that result against a Gladbach team who look very much on the up.

Having scored ten and conceded 17 on their own patch, Ingolstadt have, quite simply, failed to score enough and have conceded too many. Just one clean sheet at home suggests that the Bavarian club have really struggled from a defensive point of view – facing a Gladbach side who’ve scored four in their last two league matches, and ten in their last four in all competitions, isn’t exactly what the doctor ordered.

In addition, the home side have conceded at least twice in seven of their ten league fixtures at home. Couple this with the fact that Gladbach have scored at least twice in three of their last four on the road, and it’s easy to feel upbeat about the visitors’ chances here.

With players such as Thorgen Hazard, Raffael, Patrick Hermann and talismanic Lars Stindl – the man who inspired their mid-week comeback with a hat-trick – Gladbach have more than enough quality to do some real damage in matches such as this one. And, considering the hosts are conceding on average a league-high 5.40 shots on target per match, the visitors should find themselves with several goal-scoring opportunities.

All in all, we’re talking about two teams who’re seemingly heading in different directions. The disparity in quality between the two is expected to be crystal-clear when they meet on Sunday.
