Hull and Spurs come into this final match off the back of contrasting campaigns and will likely be in very different moods both before and after the game. Hull’s return to the Premier League has finally ended in disappointment, even though they appeared to be making a good fist of survival at one point. On the other hand, Spurs have enjoyed an excellent campaign, one that has yielded their highest ever points tally in the Premier League, and, despite silverware remaining elusive, they’ve shown real progression and are very much a side on the up.

With their current predicaments in mind, it’s impossible to fancy anything other than a victory for the visiting team here. If their mid-week exploits away at Leicester are anything to go by, Pochettino’s men could end the season in style against a dejected Hull side. The bets that catch the eye are ‘Tottenham -1 Handicap’ and ‘Tottenham to Score Over 2.5 Goals’.

It was during the final few games of last season where the wheels started to fall off for Spurs and many people expected something similar to happen this time around, especially after they lost away to West Ham a few weeks ago. However, Tottenham have showcased the progress that has been made by bouncing back to win both of their matches since that defeat. The way in which the Premier League runners-up turned on the style to dismantle Leicester, even though the result was irrelevant, was impressive and they’re fancied to put in a similar performance in Yorkshire on Sunday afternoon.

Although much has been made of an unbeaten season at their now old home of White Hart Lane, it has often been Tottenham’s performances away from home that have impressed during this campaign. Pochettino’s men have been imperious on their travels at times, particularly against the struggling teams. Their record of six wins, two draws and one loss against teams in the bottom half bodes well, as does the fact that they’ve scored an impressive 22 goals in those nine fixtures. Five of those nine saw Spurs win by a margin of at least two goals, while they’ve scored at least three in four of them. What’s more, when Spurs welcomed Hull to the aforementioned White Hart Lane earlier in the season, they brushed them aside (4-0) in second gear – the fact that this match is away from home isn’t likely to hold much sway and the hosts must be fearing a similar outcome.

As their abysmal record of 73 goals conceded suggests, defending has been the main problem for Hull this season and it really is hard to believe that they’ll suddenly find some sort of solidity from somewhere now, especially against a Spurs side who by taking no less than 26 shots last time out showed that they’re staying on right to the finish line.

In addition to an overall horror show at the back, Hull’s record against the big teams is pretty poor. The Tigers conceded at least three against both Arsenal and City on home soil, while they were beaten by a two-goal margin in three of their four matches against the current top five.

All things considered, when two teams who’re at different ends of the Premier League spectrum come together on the final day, there can only be one winner. Tottenham are expected to send their travelling fans home happy by putting a Championship-bound Hull to the sword.
