Gladbach play on a Friday night for the second week running and, having slumped to a 0-0 draw (at home) with Frankfurt last week, they’ll be hoping for better this time around.

Having failed to win any of their last four league games, Gladbach haven’t exactly been themselves of late. They were comfortably beaten by both Schalke and Bayern, before pushing and probing against Frankfurt without really creating much. The Champions League provided a welcome distraction just a few days ago, but things turned sour there also as they failed to see out the match against Celtic – surrendering a lead to draw 1-1 in front of an expectant home crowd. In truth, André Schubert’s team have struggled to get going in recent weeks and things aren’t likely to get much easier on Friday as they face a Hertha side who’ve been in formidable form at home this season.

As for Hertha, well, they may have walked away empty handed in the last round of fixtures (lost 1-0), but, considering how strong Hoffenheim have been this season, that result shouldn’t put a dampener on what they’d achieved previously and this match against an out-of-sorts Mönchengladbach side, provides an excellent opportunity for the hosts to bounce back.

In the betting, it is perhaps strange that the hosts aren’t a bit warmer and, at odds of 7/5, backing Hertha to claim all three points looks a worthwhile bet. Additionally, at odds of 6/4, ‘Hertha to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ is another bet to go for.

The hosts have impressed when playing in front of their own fans this season and, having won each of their four matches, they are yet to drop points at the famous Olympiastadion. With a total of eight goals under their belt in those four matches, it’s also fair to say that they’ve been in good scoring form.

The fact that Hertha have scored two goals in each of their four home wins this season also bodes well ahead of this one, especially when we consider the defensive frailties of Gladbach on the road. The visitors have never really been known as a defensive side and have generally relied on their attacking prowess to get where they want to be; however, with key forward players injured this season, they’re finding it tough and, as a result, their poor defence has come into focus. Gladbach have failed to keep a clean sheet when playing away from home this season, letting in a total of ten goals in four matches. On top of this, they’ve conceded two or more in three of their four league games.

If the above wasn’t reason enough to get behind Hertha in this fixture, then another reason is the fact that Gladbach played a Champions League match during the week. André Schubert fielded pretty much the strongest team available on Tuesday night and it’s only logical to assume that, as a result, the visitors won’t be as fresh and possibly not as well prepared as the home side.

All things considered, there’s plenty to like about Hertha here, while there’s very little to like about Mönchengladbach. With this in mind, the Berlin team are expected to continue their run and register a fifth consecutive home win.
