Having come through a rather up and down tie against Ludogorets in the last round, Hapoel Be’er Sheva are now just one two-legged tie away from entering the Champions League proper for the first time in their existence. Slovenian side Maribor, who’re also bidding to make it through the group stages for the first time in their history, are all that stands in the way. Given the circumstances, this really is a huge occasion for both teams and so expect each of them to be raring to go.

During qualifying so far, these two teams have created positive impressions. Both have looked to get on the front foot and pay football and it is this attacking philosophy that has arguably allowed them to progress this far. Having come through two rounds each, neither side has failed to score in qualifying. It would be no surprise if such a trend continued and so ‘Both Teams to Score’ is the bet that catches the eye ahead of this first-leg, particularly at what could easily prove to be a very generous 7/5.

Not only did Hapoel score both home and away against Ludogorets in the last round but they’ve also scored with regularity at their home stadium in recent times. The hosts come into this one having notched at least once in nine of their last ten in front of a home crowd, as well as in 19 of their last 20. As touched on before, they’ve also scored in all four of their matches in qualifying so far, scoring a total of four goals in two home matches. Such stats bode well and it would be a surprise if they failed to make the grade as far as scoring goes in this one. In the previous round against Ludogorets, at Turner Stadium, Be’er Sheva looked equally threatening when both making the running and playing on the counter. However, in those four qualifying matches, they have kept just one clean sheet and, considering the scoring record of the visitors, they certainly couldn’t be relied upon here to keep things quiet at the back.

Maribor, like Hapoel, are a side whose attacking output has stood out during the qualifying rounds. They scored both home and away against Zrinjski before repeating the feat against Hafnarfjordur in the last round. During the last round, Darko Milanič’s side may have scored just once both at home and on their travels but the manner in which they got forward plenty in both legs bodes well ahead of this one. Especially since Hapoel, as we saw against Ludogorets, by playing an open and attacking game, will give their opposition both chances and space to break into it. Aside from this, Maribor come into this match with a very impressive scoring record away from home. The visitors have scored at least one goal in nine of their last ten on the road, as well as in 18 of their last 20. They’ve also scored in each of their last four away in this competition, as well as in eight of their last ten.

As two teams who’re both vying to carve out a piece of club history, and who’ve both scored in 100% of their matches in qualifying so far, go head-to-head, backing ‘Both Teams to Score’ is very much the way to go.
