This play-off match is still finely balanced after the first leg in Dundee ended 0-0. One slip up or moment of genius could decide the match in what is likely to be a tense affair.

After losing four consecutive matches towards the end of the season, Hamilton have found a little bounce going into this match with one win and a draw in their last two – including that 0-0 in the first leg.

The Accies’ problem this season had been scoring goals and they ended the regular season as the second-lowest scorers in the Scottish top flight – only pulling themselves off the bottom by scoring four in their final match. They also only found the back of the net in two matches in that four-match losing streak. Defensively, Hamilton have actually been pretty good of late and they have now not conceded in 180 minutes of football.

Given that their away form was the worst in the league, it was certainly home form that kept Martin Canning’s side away from the automatic relegation zone. Hamilton won their last home match by a huge 4-0 scoreline and, prior to two consecutive defeats in April and May, they had gone on a seven-match unbeaten run at New Douglas Park.

That first leg draw against Hamilton kept Dundee United’s unbeaten run going and it has now stretched to 11 in all competitions. However, they would have been keen to come into this away leg of the play-off tie with at least a one goal advantage.

Goals have been a common theme in Terrors’ matches this campaign and particularly in recent times. Before that 0-0 draw against Hamilton, Dundee had found the back of the net in each of their previous seven matches, scoring more than a single goal in all but one of them. However, there have been a few leaks at the back over the course of the campaign with 42 conceded in 36 regular season games and just two clean sheets in their last eight.

Away form has not been great for the Tangerines and, prior to the play-offs, they had failed to win in nine away matches. However, after the finish of the regular season, this form has improved with two wins from two away play-off games. Having said that, they have kept just one away clean sheet in all competitions since 17th December 2016.

The first leg result certainly suits Hamilton more than it does Dundee, however, the fact that neither side has an advantage at the moment means, as mentioned earlier, this could be a tense affair. As it was during the first-leg, the first half will be especially tight with neither side keen to give anything away, hence why a bet of ‘Half Time Draw’ makes plenty of sense. This bet would have won in 44.45% of Dundee United matches this season and in 39.45% of Hamilton matches.
