Technically, you could say that neither of these sides have anything to play for here with Grimsby out of the play-off race whilst Plymouth have already secured promotion. However, Grimsby will want to put on a good performance to finish off a good season whilst Plymouth will want to lift the League Two title.

Despite winning three out of the last five games, the two losses in that time means they are now out of the play-off race. However, the fact they were only promoted out of non-league last season means that a mid-table finish represents a good season.

Goals have been the theme to Grimsby matches for a long time and that has not changed since Russell Slade’s arrival back at the club. Slade’s side have found the back eight times in his four-match reign so far but are yet to keep a clean sheet – a run which actually stretches all the way back to mid-March.

Slade has only taken charge of two matches at Blundell Park since his return to the Mariners, however, he has done extremely well and so far has a 100% win ratio on home soil. Overall, Grimsby have been very good at home in recent times, scoring in each of their last nine. Unfortunately though, they have also been letting quite a few in with no clean sheet in their last five, conceding an alarming 11.

Plymouth currently sit top of League Two following a fantastic run of just one defeat in their last ten matches. It had looked like Doncaster Rovers would run away with it, however, Plymouth have taken full advantage of Donny’s recent slip-up and will claim the title with a win here.

Unsurprisingly for a team top of the table, Argyle have been excellent in both boxes throughout the course of the campaign with 70 goals scored and just 45 conceded in 45 matches. However, it must also be mentioned that they have kept just one clean sheet in their last six. Although they do have an average of 1.83 goals per game in that time.

Much of Derek Adams’ side’s success this campaign has been based on their fantastic away form which has seen them take 44 points from 22 matches – the best in the league – whilst they are also undefeated in their last nine on the road. Plymouth have only conceded twice in their last four matches outside of Home Park whilst they have also found the back of the net in 86% of away games this campaign.

Although they have already secured promotion, Plymouth will want to finish this excellent campaign off by clinching the title, despite Doncaster’s dominance for much of the season. Grimsby have been good at home recently but, given Plymouth’s brilliant away form, and their added motivation, I expect the away side to get the job done here, scoring a couple of goals in the process. ‘Plymouth to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ and ‘Plymouth to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ are the bets to go for.
