This League Two match sees two play-off hopefuls go head-to-head as Grimsby Town, six points off the top seven, host Colchester United who are currently in the play-off places on goal difference.

Grimsby may be six points off the play-offs but, with 13 games still yet to play, Marcus Bignot’s side will still feel they have an outside chance. Having said that, they are currently on an inconsistent run and without back-to-back wins since 7th January.

The Mariners are better at the back than they are going forward and have kept two clean sheets in their last three games. This keeps up their excellent clean sheet record (the second-best in the league) of 13 in 33. Since Omar Bogle’s departure though, they have lost a bit of their potency in the final third and have found the back of the net in just one of their last four matches.

Home form has been good for Grimsby in the last few weeks and they are currently on a three-match unbeaten run at Blundell Park, keeping two clean sheets. Additionally, they have lost just once in their last six games on home soil.

Colchester find themselves in the top seven, but only on goal difference, after two consecutive wins.

However, with manager John McGreal implementing quite an attacking style (50 goals in 33) it means they are quite open at the back and they have the second-worst defensive record in the top seven. This of course means that they could end up dropping points quite easily.

Form away from the Weston Homes Community Stadium has not been good for the U’s with just 18 points taken from 17 away matches whilst they have also failed to win in any of their last four games on the road.

Even though Grimsby can be a bit inconsistent and are quite a bit lower in the table than Colchester, their defensive solidity should stand them in good stead here. McGreal’s men are poor on their travels and Grimsby are a certainly a team who prefer to play at home. 7/5 on the home win is well worth taking advantage of.
