Both Granada and Gijón escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last season – the pair finished on 39 points each, beating the drop by just a single point. Having come so close to losing their place in La Liga back in May, both sides will have undoubtedly been looking for better this time around. However, since both sit inside the bottom three after eight games, another relegation battle looks inevitable.

Even though neither of these two were massive scorers last season, it wasn’t necessarily a lack of goals scored that saw that saw them entangled in the fight for survival, but rather the fact that both conceded at an alarming rate. Their 76 matches combined saw just 11 clean sheets. In this area, things aren’t looking much brighter this time around with this pair being the two teams who’ve, so far, conceded the most La Liga goals. Granada have let in 23 goals and are yet to keep a clean sheet this season, while Sporting Gijón have conceded 18 and have kept just one clean sheet – a 0-0 draw against newly promoted Alavés on match-day two.

Considering the lack of defensive ability showcased, goals look an inevitable outcome in this one. Both teams will know the importance of taking points off of potential relegation rivals, while each of these teams will feel this is a winnable match. With this in mind, an open, attacking encounter is expected.

With just eight and seven scored respectively, Granada and Gijón haven’t exactly burst into life in terms of goal-scoring this season; however, considering they’re playing each other and neither can seemingly defend, this match represents an excellent opportunity for both to find their scoring touch.

There are two bets worth going for ahead of this fixture and these are: ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ and ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’, at 23/20 and 7/5 respectively

Not only do these two look capable of notching a few goals here, but their respective ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ & ‘Both Teams to Score’ records reflect favourably too. Both teams have scored in all but one of Granada’s eight games, while Gijón have seen both teams find the net in five out of eight this season. On top of this, at least three goals were scored in seven of Granada’s eight matches this season, while the exact same can be said for Sporting Gijón.

Realistically, this is a game where goals standout and it’s hard to envisage an outcome where these two walk off the pitch at full time having failed to notch a fair few times.
