One of Wednesday’s international friendlies sees the latest instalment of the historic rivalry between Germany and England.

Germany are performing exceptionally well in World Cup Qualifying Group C with four wins on the spin, putting them top of the table.

We all know Germany are one of the world’s best teams and are fantastic at both ends, hence why they have done so well this campaign and of course became world champions back in 2014.

However, friendlies are one thing that Joachim Low’s side really do not care about and there is no doubt whatsoever that they will be focusing on the following match against Azerbaijan rather than this meaningless friendly. It is worth noting that they have won just two friendlies against ‘big’ teams since March 2015.

In terms of the squad, Germany have once again gone for a mix of youth and experience with the likes of uncapped striker Timo Werner called up alongside Lukas Podolski who will play for his country for the final time. Additionally, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has had to withdraw from the squad through injury.

England have unsurprisingly also had a good start to their World Cup qualifying campaign and top Group F after three wins and one draw, with no goals conceded, after an embarrassing Euro 2016 campaign.

Of course everybody knows that the Three Lions do not start faltering until major tournaments and so the above is hardly relevant to overall performance.

Wayne Rooney has been dropped from the squad by new manager Gareth Southgate in a big call and the former England U21 boss has, like the Germans, gone for a blend of youth and experience with several uncapped players getting their first call ups.

Unlike Germany, whose main rivals are actually the Netherlands, the English will take this match incredibly seriously and arguably more so than their next qualifier against Lithuania. It is certainly worth mentioning that England won the last meeting in Germany between the two sides and have actually won three of the last four matches between the two in Germany.

Although the Germans are the favourites here, I’m not convinced that they’ll come out on top. They really will not be bothered about this and, in fact, find it rather amusing that England do get so pumped up for what is, in all honesty, a meaningless game.

The English will probably have a good time on Wednesday but the Germans will have the last laugh at 2018. Overall, England have the quality, and the experience of playing together, which should be enough for them to at least avoid defeat against what could be quite an experimental German side.

I think the ‘Double Chance’ market is well worth looking at here and the price of 6/5 on ‘England Win or Draw’ is well worth taking.
