Frankfurt v Darmstadt Betting Tips: Hosts set to dominate at Commerzbank

Feb 03 2017

High-flying Frankfurt welcome a floundering Darmstadt to The Commerzbank-Arena on Sunday afternoon – a fixture that provides the hosts with the ideal opportunity to continue their excellent campaign.

There have been a number of relative success stories in the Bundesliga this season and Frankfurt are definitely one of them. After 18 matches, Die Adler, having won nine, drawn six and lost just four, are going well and find themselves sat in the all-important Champions League places. Niko Kovač’s side are tough to beat both home and away and, in taking on a team who already look as though they’ve got one foot back in the second division, have an excellent chance of continuing their winning form.

Unsurprisingly, it is the hosts who’re very much fancied to come out on top here and, at odds of 1/1 and 19/10 respectively, ‘Frankfurt to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ and ‘Frankfurt to Win -1 Handicap’ are the two angles of attack.

Although they’ve been effective both in front of their own fans and on the road, Frankfurt have probably been at their best on home soil so far this season. They are currently one of six Bundesliga sides who’re unbeaten at home, winning five and drawing three. Defensively, Kovač’s men have been pretty solid in conceding just seven goals and they’ve offered plenty at the other end having found the opposition’s net on 14 occasions.

Despite scoring less goals than any of the other top-five teams, the hosts have looked good going forward on their own patch, scoring at least twice on five occasions, including against the likes of Bayern, Mainz and Leverkusen. With this in mind, it’s hard to imagine a defensively weak Darmstadt (conceded 36 goals already this season) keeping them at bay for too long.

Darmstadt’s problems have been clear from the start of the season. Quite simply, they concede far too many goals without scoring enough of their own.

There is likely to be some optimism regarding the recent appointment of Torsten Frings as manager, but, considering his side are already six points from safety, it looks like the World Cup winner has an almighty task on his hands. Despite temporarily stopping the rot with a 0-0 draw against Gladbach in the first game back after the winter break, it was back to business as normal for Darmstadt last weekend when they slumped to a 6-1 home defeat against Köln. Defensive frailties were once again showcased and it’s hard to feel optimistic about their chances against a very good Frankfurt side.

The visitors have conceded at least twice in six of their eight away matches this season – a stat that is likely to read seven in nine after this weekend.

All in all, Frankfurt will know just how big a chance this is to maintain their lofty position and they’re fancied to grab it with both hands by recording a convincing victory.
