Krasnodar currently hold a 1-0 advantage over Fenerbahce in this tie, but the Russian outfit could have trouble defending such a slender lead at the Ulker Stadium in Istanbul.

Fenerbahce are not on a great run of form at the moment and have won just once in their last five matches in all competitions. They are currently a lowly 4th in the Turkish Superlig and a massive 10 points off Besiktas in top spot.

As mentioned on my write-up for the first leg, Dick Advocaat’s men are frightening going forward and it is no surprise that they are among the Super Lig’s top scorers with 39 in 21 games. However, they have now failed to register in their last two matches in all competitions which will worry the manager.

Defensively, the Istanbul side are pretty low in the ‘Goals Against’ table compared to their other rivals but their record of 19 in 21 is still pretty impressive. They also did very well to concede just once against Krasnodar in the first leg to keep themselves in the tie.

The Ulker Stadium is seen as one of the fiercest venues in the world and Fener are doing pretty well at home right now with no defeat since 30th November. Having said that, they are down in 6th in the domestic Home Form table due to the fact they have drawn too many matches.

Krasnodar did well to claim victory against Fenerbahce, especially considering it was their first competitive match since their Europa League loss to OCG Nice on 8th December 2016. The Bulls are seen as a potential new European force for Russian football and so a positive result in this second leg could be a good sign of things to come.

Igor Shalimov’s men are decent at both ends of the pitch with 24 goals scored and just 14 conceded in 17 Russian Premier League matches. Additionally, in Fedor Smolov, they have a striker capable of playing at a very high level and scoring against top opponents.

The main problem with Krasnodar however has been their away form and they currently sit 10th in the Russian Premier League ‘Away table’ and have failed to win away in the top flight this season. Furthermore, they have lost their last three competitive matches on their travels.

This away form is huge going into this match in Istanbul and I am not sure Krasnodar, especially without full match practice, can hold on to their slender lead against a home side who will be determined to get the win in front of their own fans. All in all, the Turkish giants can put their Russian opponents to the sword here and ensure passage to the last-16.

‘Fenerbahce to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ is well worth backing. If the hosts can get the first goal against a Krasnodar side who simply cannot cope on the road, then they’re likely to finish them off.
