FC Köln v Werder Bremen Betting Tips: Nouri’s men to see yet more goals
Sports betting writer Bradley Gibbs highlights two bets ahead of Friday’s Bundesliga match between Köln and Werder Bremen.
Bremen’s rise up the Bundesliga table continued last weekend as they got the better of a Hertha Berlin team who’re on the slide. With another win under their belt, Alexander Nouri’s men are now sat inside the top six and are on course to qualify for Europe – an achievement that seemed unthinkable not that long ago.
Bremen’s excellent run of form is particularly bad news for Friday’s opponents Köln as it means it’s them who’ve slipped outside the European spots. With just three games to go, as this pair try to ensure continental action for next season, this is a must win game for both.
Goals have been the order of the day for the visitors pretty much all season long and, with this match likely to be a frenetic, end-to-end affair, as most of Bremen’s matches tend to be, the net is expected to be found on multiple occasions. With this in mind, the two angles of attack are ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ and ‘Over 3.5 Goals’.
In recent weeks, the attacking efforts of Nouri’s side really must be applauded; in their last five, Bremen have scored no less than 13 goals, and have scored an impressive 26 in their last ten. In only one of those ten fixtures have Werder Bremen scored less than two goals. Its fair to say that, from an attacking point of view, this is a team at the peak of their powers, they’re full of confidence and are likely to fancy their chances of doing some real damage against a direct top six rival here.
Having mentioned how good the visitors have been going forward of late, it must be said that, for all their attacking qualities, they’re still fairly weak at the back, especially on the road. Bremen have kept just two clean sheets on their travels this season and come into this match having conceded at least twice in each of their last three away matches. What’s more, both teams have scored in 80% (12/15) of their away matches during this campaign, while ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ has landed in 75%.
The hosts can’t quite match their visitors when it comes to high-scoring games, then again not many teams can, but they’re certainly no strangers to seeing the goals go in on their own patch. Peter Stöger’s men have scored in four of their last five home matches, but have kept just one clean sheet during that time. Recent matches against both Gladbach and Hertha, that finished 2-3 and 4-2 respectively, were perfect illustrations of both Köln’s attacking quality and defensive weaknesses. With players such as Leanardo Bittencourt and the 23-goal Anthony Modeste, the hosts are always a threat, but they’ve certainly found it hard to keep the opposition out recently and are likely to struggle to do so once again against a Bremen team who’ve been rampant of late.
Interestingly, no Bundesliga team has seen ‘Over 3.5 Goals’ land more times than Werder Bremen this season; 67% of their matches have contained at least four goals.
With both of this pair likely to be going for it on Friday night, it’s very hard to see an outcome where the goals remain elusive.
