These two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the first leg of this play-off on Tuesday night so hopefully we will see more of the same here.

Falkirk managed to continue their decent form in that aforementioned first leg as Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw meant that their unbeaten streak has now stretched to seven matches, however, there have been four draws in that time which is a bit disappointing.

Peter Houston’s side have been fantastic at both ends of the pitch this season with 58 goals scored and 40 conceded in the 36 matches of the regular season – only division champions Hibernian have a better record. However, whilst the goal-scoring touch has still been there in the closing matches, the defensive side of their game has been in decline with just two clean sheets kept in those aforementioned seven matches. On some occasions, they have managed to find the back of the net twice but still not come away with maximum points due to their leaky back-line.

Interestingly, home form has been relatively poor for The Bairns and they only have the fourth-best home points tally in the league with 30 from 18 games. Furthermore, they have won just once in their last five matches on home soil. Again, defence has been the problem with just one clean sheet in those five games whilst their home Goals Against record of 22 is the worst of the top four teams.

Dundee United were also in good form going into that first leg with no defeats in nine matches – including the two previous play-off games against Greenock Morton.

The Tangerines have been a lot like Falkirk in recent times in the fact that they have been scoring a lot of goals, 13 in their last six, but also conceded a fair few – just one clean sheet in their last six. Having said that, unlike Falkirk, Dundee’s defence had a big blip in the middle of the campaign and from 17th December 2016 to 11th April 2017, they kept just one clean sheet in all competitions in a run stretching across 17 games.

Unfortunately for Ray McKinnon’s men, going into these play-off matches, away form had been abysmal with no wins in ten league games. Their play-off victory away at Greenock Morton was their first in any competition since 18th February and their first in a league (including playoffs) game in 2017. Furthermore, Dundee scored just 19 goals in regular away league matches this season – the third-worst in the division.

Given Dundee’s poor goal-scoring record on the road, unfortunately I do not think we will be in for a thrilling encounter. In fact, it would not surprise me if this finished all-square looking at the number of draws in both of these side’s recent run-ins. After an exciting first match, it would not be a surprise if these two were both a bit subdued in this return leg, especially with the pressure on, and thus a draw makes plenty of appeal at 13/5.
