Sunday’s late kickoff sees seventh host sixth as Everton host Manchester United at Goodison Park. With both of these sides chasing European football next season, we should be in for a good game.

Everton have been exceptionally poor recently with just one win in their last eight Premier League matches. If it were not for their early season winning streak, The Toffees would no doubt be a lot lower than seventh where, although they are five points off fifth, they can still harbour ambitions of European football next season.

Having said that, home form has actually been good for Ronald Koeman’s men this season with The Toffees still yet to lose a Premier League match at Goodison Park. If they can sort their away form out, then this home record can certainly help them to achieve their aims this campaign.

Despite having an excellent defence on paper, which performed superbly in the first few weeks of the campaign, Everton have had just one clean sheet since winning 3-0 against lowly Sunderland back in early September – something that needs sorting quickly if they are to get their season back on track. Conversely, they are excellent going forward and have scored in six of their last seven top flight matches whilst the last time they failed to find the back of the net in a Premier League fixture at Goodison was all the way back in March. Having this record going up against a rather frail Manchester United back-line will give Ronald Koeman confidence going into Sunday’s match.

United’s midweek EFL League Cup win against West Ham United provided a distraction as they played some nice football and came away with a 4-1 win. However, that is all it was – a distraction. On Sunday they return to the bread and butter of the Premier League where they have been performing below expectations with just one win in their last seven matches – and even that was against relegation-threatened Swansea City.

Although he arrived with a lot of fanfare in the summer, Jose Mourinho has not had an ideal start both on and off the pitch to his time in Manchester and there are even some people who say he is already under pressure.

United score a reasonable amount of goals which is to be expected when you have the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford, among others, in the side. However, their defence, as previously mentioned, is pretty poor with The Red Devils already conceding 15 goals in 13 games – the poorest record in the top six.

Furthermore, their away record has not been good so far this season with all three of their victories coming up against sides who are likely to be in and around the relegation places. Hardly ideal when you are going to one of the toughest grounds in the league.

Overall, it’s hard to see United taking all three points from Goodison and, with Everton’s decent home record, I think the Toffees should be able to get a positive result here. However, with confidence generally running a bit low in the Everton camp at the moment, I think we could be looking at a draw.

If you are looking for something a bit more flexible then ‘Both Teams to Score’, at 5/6, isn’t the worst shout.  With both sides having good attacks yet dodgy defences, a goal for each is highly likely.
