On Thursday evening, England U19’s will be hoping to emulate their U20 counterparts (and outdo their U21 equivalents) by reaching the final of the Under-19 Euros in Georgia. Having dominated their group, winning all three of their matches in good style, England have been probably the most impressive team at this tournament and appear to have an excellent chance of going all the way. Czech Republic are by no means a weak opponent, they wouldn’t be here if they were, but, based on what we’ve seen so far, it will probably take their best performance at these finals so far to topple a rampant-looking England side.

Considering that they made it through to the semis courtesy of a 4-1 thrashing of the Germans, it’s not hard to see why England are heavy favourites ahead of this match. As mentioned above, they’ll take some stopping. However, for all their goals and attacking quality, they haven’t looked the most secure at the back, even if they have only conceded one goal prior to this fixture. Both the Germans and Holland spurned opportunities against England and so the Czech’s, who’ve scored at least once in all three of their matches, really should fancy themselves to cause a few problems here. The bet that stands out is ‘England to Win & Both Teams to Score’ at 21/10.

From an attacking point of view, Czech Republic looked as good as anyone in Group A as they scored five goals, notching at least once in all three of their matches. They created plenty of problems against the Swedes on match-day one and were unlucky not to score more than the single goal that they managed against Group A winners Portugal second time out. Against Georgia on match-day three they put in another confident attacking performance as they scored twice against a defence that both Sweden and Portugal found fairly hard to breach. All things considered, there’s been plenty to like about the way this young Czech side has gone forward and in Daniel Turyna and Michal Sadilek, both of which have scored twice at this tournament so far, they have goalscorers in their ranks.

The problem for Czech Republic here is likely to be at the back, especially against an England side who’ve impressed more than anyone going forward. Having conceded five goals in Georgia this summer, Jan Suchopárek’s side are yet to keep a clean sheet. It is this lack of defensive solidity that could be their downfall in this semi-final. Even though you wouldn’t bank on the English shutting their opponents out, based on what we’ve seen from this pair, you’d be hard pushed to disagree that they look a good bet to outscore them.

It’s been hard to pick holes in the manner in which England have attacked during their three matches at this tournament so far; having notched seven goals, they’re the top scorers and, with the likes of Ryan Sessegnon, Mason Mount and Ben Brereton in the line-up, look capable of finding varying routes to goal.

In a match where both teams should have the quality to get on the score-sheet, it is the English who’re fancied to just have too much about them and, therefore, they’re worth backing to come out on top of what is likely to be a goal-filled encounter.
