Coming into this game Elche have collected five points in their last five matches and have one win in their last eight games. Coach Francisco Escriba knows his team is running out of time and although they are above Valladolid by one point, a loss against Atletico could see them slip to the 18th position.

Atletico Madrid are on the verge of turning their season into a disastrous one. After leading the La Liga table almost all season, the Rojiblancos could lose that spot to Barcelona if the latter win their match on Thursday against Granada. Diego Simeone saw his team lose another match last Sunday to Athletic Bilbao and have no other option but to win their remaining games.

It was Atletico’s second defeat in five matches, a very bad run considering they have lost just four games all season. Simeone will hope his top goal scorer Luiz Suarez will be back in form. The Uruguayan hasn’t scored in five games. 

Atletico have not lost to Elche and have won two of their last three visits to Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero. Simeone’s team dropped eight points in their last five games and can’t afford to drop anymore. The key clash for them will be on May 8 as they visit the Camp Nou for what could be this season’s champion decider.
