Eibar play host to Villarreal at Ipurúa on Sunday. The two teams, who’ve both fared reasonably well so far this season, go head-to-head in La Liga’s early kick-off.

In the betting, neither team is heavily fancied for this match and, realistically, a solid case could be made for both. One thing that is fancied, certainly by the bookmakers, is a low-scoring match; however, despite an ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ valuation of 4/7, these two teams could easily surprise the majority and serve up a few goals.

At odds of 11/8, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ is too good to miss, as is ‘Both Teams to Score’ at 1/1. Each of this pair have shown themselves to be decent attacking sides of late and their ability in the final third is fancied to come to fore once again on Sunday.

Eibar are tough for anyone to face when playing in front of their own fans, they’ve made the Ipurúa a bit of a fortress and generally fare well when playing there. However, Villarreal will be the hosts’ first real test at home and they might just struggle to keep things as tight as they would usually like.

From a goals perspective, things look positive. Eibar have scored at least once in all five of their home matches so far this season, scoring seven goals in total. In fact, they’ve scored in every match that they’ve played in this season and are capable of posing an attacking threat no matter who the opposition is. In front of a home crowd, the hosts have conceded five, while both teams have scored in three of those five matches. Additionally, both teams scored in seven of their nine La Liga matches this season.

As for the visitors, they too have been in decent scoring form this season. Having failed to score in just two of their nine matches, Villarreal have found the net on 16 occasions. They’ve scored four goals on the road, scoring at least once in three out of their four away games, while both teams found the net in three of those five.

The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ stats don’t exactly scream off the page ahead of this one – three or more goals were scored in five of Eibar’s nine league matches, while more than two goals hit the net in four of Villarreal’s nine. However, the fact that both teams look a real threat going forward bodes well and the way each is likely to set up should really favour goals.

Having failed to score in none of their La Liga matches this season, Eibar have proved that they’re very capable as an attacking force and it would be a bit of a shock if they weren’t able to seriously threaten the Villarreal back-line in this one, even if they are likely to see less of the ball. In fact, Villarreal having more of the ball should suit the hosts just fine. José Luis Mendilibar’s side are no strangers to playing on the counter and such tactics have often paid dividends.

As touched on above, the visitors will almost certainly dictate possession in this match and, while this may well leave them open to the counter, they are the sort of team who use possession of the ball to good effect. As passing-teams go, The Yellow Submarine are up there with the best in this division and it would be a big surprise if their slick approach play wasn’t to yield results on Sunday.

In addition to the two bets above, the combination bet of ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ is both a logical addition in a match where goals are expected all-round and a nice way to round this one off.
