Derby County – Hull City – Thomas Giles prediction
Derby have been in this position for the last few seasons and bottled it on every occasion. This season they seemed to be somewhat panic stricken when they sacked Paul Clement and appointed the inexperienced Darren Wassall before declaring promotion was not a priority.
Hull on the other hand are a team who have somewhat gone under the radar. Perhaps because everybody expects them to be at the top of the table but they have gone about their business quietly and efficiently. Manager Steve Bruce will have been disappointed to have missed out on the automatic spots. However, he knows all about getting out of the Championship having already achieved it with Hull whilst he also has experience of winning the playoffs after being promoted with Birmingham City in 2002.
Neither side has any new injury concerns but the form table leans towards Hull who have only lost one in the last seven whilst Derby have not won in nearly a month. Although Derby thrashed Hull 4-0 the last time these sides met, I just cannot help but think that Steve Bruce’s nous and experience in these tense playoff matches will see his players will come on top.
