Despite coming into the tournament in patchy form, the Italians did what they do best when it comes to tournament football on match-day one as they ground out a solid victory over Denmark in disciplined fashion. In contrast, Czech Republic were poor in their loss to Germany and are all already looking in trouble as far as progressing from the group goes.

Italy’s U21’s were well-drilled, organised and extremely professional in their win over Denmark and are expected to put together a similar performance here against a Czech side who failed to cope with the Germans on match-day one. The two bets that stand out are ‘Italy to Win & Under 2.5 Goals’ and ‘Italy to Keep a Clean Sheet’ at 13/5 and 5/4 respectively.

At international level, the Italian style rarely changes and it appears as though the current crop of U21’s are perfectly capable of following suit. Against Denmark, Luigi Di Biagio’s side were extremely organised as they limited their opponents to half-chances and shots from distance for most of the match before making use of their own attacking moves. Considering the impotence shown in the final third by the Czech’s against Germany, it would be no surprise again if Italy were able to keep their opponents at bay before making them pay at the other end.

Even though they’re strongly fancied to win, just as they were on match-day one, you don’t really get the impression that this Italian side is going to go crazy in terms of goals. In truth, hefty wins aren’t commonplace for this lot as their style is very much about containment and getting the job done. Unsurprisingly, they’ve only scored more than two goals just once in their last ten, and even that came against minnows Andorra in qualifying.

With a goal-scoring record that even the best teams would be proud of, Czech Republic came into this tournament as a threat; however, on the big stage, when it mattered most, they flattered to deceive against a decent-looking German side. In losing 2-0, they were second best throughout and were especially poor in the final third. A single shot on target was all they could manage while the highly rated Patrik Schick spurned the only two real chances that came his side’s way. Against a resolute Italian side who’re unlikely to leave space in behind, clear-cut opportunities could be few and far between so the chances of Czech goals look slim.

At this level, as we’re starting to see from the way games are panning out, experience is key and it would seem that Italy have it in droves. Many of their starters have played regularly in Serie A and their nous certainly showed during their win over Denmark.

After losing first time out, with both Germany and Italy winning, the young Czech’s really are fighting a losing battle and it’s easy to see frustration creeping into their play early on in this match. If this is to be the case, the Italians will thrive, both defensively and offensively. Punters shouldn’t hesitate to support this Italy side as another solid display is expected from Di Biagio’s men.
