Palace making strides under Patrick Vieira
Patrick Vieira was handed a tough gauntlet of fixtures to kick off his tenure as Palace boss, though the ex-French international has already won plenty of plaudits for his team’s early progress under his watch.
On Monday evening, the Eagles came within a whisker of beating Vieira’s old club Arsenal at The Emirates Stadium, when Alexandre Lacazette levelled the scores a 2-2 with virtually the last kick of the game.
Despite their late disappointment, Palace’s performance was filled to the brim with positives and the Eagles can approach Saturday’s clash with Newcastle armed with plenty of confidence.
New era for Newcastle
Newcastle finally axed manager Steve Bruce in midweek, ending the coach’s three-year spell in the north east. Bruce’s departure was always inevitable after the club’s money-spinning takeover and assistant Graeme Jones will take the reins against Palace in his place before a permanent successor is announced.
The Magpies were beaten 3-2 in a topsy-turvy tussle with Tottenham on Sunday – a result that consigned Newcastle to their fifth defeat in eight Premier League fixtures since the onset of the new campaign.
It is interesting to note however, that Newcastle have scored in all but one of their eight league matches this season despite their dreadful results, and both teams to score has landed in seven of the same games
Crystal Palace vs Newcastle Predictions
Steve Bruce’s departure during the week changes the picture a little for Newcastle and with a reaction expected and maybe even a change of style, the match result markets are best abandoned at Selhurst Park.
Instead, backing both teams to score appeals at 1.73 when the Eagles host United in London. Both teams have scored in a huge seven out of eight league games involving the Magpies this term, while the same bet landed in each of Palace’s last three skirmishes.
Neither club can be relied upon in defence, so expect action in both penalty areas this weekend.

Crystal Palace team news
Patrick Vieira will hope to have star winger Wilfried Zaha back his squad this weekend, while Eberechi Eze isn’t far behind his teammate as he continues to recover from a long-term injury. Nathan Ferguson will definitely sit this one out however.
Newcastle team news
Jonjo Shelvey is suspended after his red card against Spurs, while goalkeepers Martin Dubravka and Freddie Woodman remain doubts for the away team. There is some confusion over the availability of Miguel Almiron too, who had to quarantine following his involvement in South America during the international break.
