Coventry surprised many, including myself, when getting the better of Port Vale during the week; however, beating play-off chasers Bristol Rovers will be a much harder task. After some pleasing results in recent times, the visitors really ought to have enough about them to come out on top.

As they’re just three points off that coveted 6th place, Rovers are still in with a shout of securing a place in the play-offs but need to continue picking up wins if they’re to maintain their challenge. A match, albeit away from home, against a team who’re already down, provides the visiting side with the perfect opportunity to keep the pressure on the handful of teams who stand between them and the play-offs. Backing ‘Bristol Rovers to Win’ makes plenty of sense here.

In recent weeks, Bristol Rovers have gone quietly about their business, picking up some very solid results in the process. Recent wins against fellow play-off hopefuls Oxford and Southend bode well, while their win last time out against Chesterfield proved that they’re a team capable of putting the lesser teams in their place. Form on the road hasn’t been outstanding of late with the aforementioned victory over Oxford their only away win for some time, but they’ve faced a tough run and have lost just one of their last five away from home. Gaining a point at both Bolton and Rochdale reflects well, especially since Coventry aren’t likely to offer anything like the same level of resistance.

The hosts will of course be lifted by their result during the week, but winning narrowly against a team who’re also residing in the drop-zone is one thing, beating a play-off contender is another. Besides, Coventry’s predicament remains the same, they’re facing a drop to the fourth tier of English football so confidence certainly won’t be too high, despite Tuesday’s win.

The Sky Blues’ recent fixtures against other play-off hopefuls is also a good indicator. Mark Robins’ team were somewhat comfortably beaten in front of a home crowd by both Bradford and Southend – considering Bristol Rovers find themselves challenging these teams at the right end of the table, the visitors should take plenty of confidence from such results.

All things considered, even with that recent win under their belts, Coventry are still in disarray, whereas Rovers appear to be progressing nicely under Darrell Clarke and can continue to do so by securing all three points, thus maintaining their assault on the play-offs.
