This is a vitally important match in League Two as two teams who are aiming for the play-offs this season come head-to-head.

Colchester are still well within the play-off hunt and are currently just three points off the top seven with a game in hand over most of their rivals, despite two consecutive losses.

The U’s are certainly a side who rely on their attacking flair to win matches and have one of the best goal-scoring records in the league with 47 from 31 matches. However, their defence suffers from this rather open style and it is no coincidence that Colchester have not kept a clean sheet in their last seven league matches.

After going on a bad run at home a few months ago with no league win in five, John McGreal’s side had picked up the pace at the Colchester Community Stadium with five consecutive wins. Unfortunately for them though, that came to a crashing halt in their last home match with a 3-2 defeat against Crawley Town.

Around about Christmas time, Wycombe looked like they were almost guaranteed a play-off spot given their fantastic run which saw them not lose a match in 16 in all competitions. However, things can turn around very quickly in football and Gareth Ainsworth’s men now find themselves down in 9th after an abysmal run of six defeats in their last seven in all competitions.

Defensively, The Chairboys have lost a lot of their steel and they have conceded at least twice in each of those aforementioned defeats. They were never fantastic in the final third which is now coming back to haunt them in this bad patch of form.

Wycombe had not lost in 12 away matches in all competitions before going to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup and cruelly losing in the last minute. It seems that that last-gasp defeat has drained the confidence from them and Wycombe have lost all four matches away from Adams Park since then.

A few weeks ago this would have looked like a Wycombe banker but now it looks dangerous to back the away side. Colchester may have lost their most recent home match but, with their superior forward quality, can get back on track against a Wycombe side who have lost their way.
