The pressure is all on FC Copenhagen here as they must win to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout rounds. For Club Brugge this is a dead rubber as they will finish bottom of the group no matter what the result is on Wednesday.

Belgian side Club Brugge have gone out with a whimper from Group G and are yet to record a single point from their first five matches. The only motivation Brugge have is to upset the Copenhagen party on Wednesday.

Michel Preud’homme’s side are actually doing very well in their domestic league, currently sitting second and just one point behind table toppers Zulte-Waregem after 17 matches. The fact they are now out of Europe will allow them to focus solely on the League and their attempts to try and defend their title.

Defence has certainly been the problem for Blauw-Zwart in Europe and they have conceded 12 goals in just five matches. Although this is obviously poor, it is actually only the fifth worst in the entire competition. As so often happens with the poorer teams in the Champions League, Brugge are the opposite in Belgium where they have the best defensive record in the league with the same 12 goals conceded but this time in 17 matches. Having said that, Preud’homme’s team have only kept two clean sheets in their last five matches so standards are clearly slipping a bit.

Whilst they have had a dire European campaign, going into Wednesday’s match, Brugge will take confidence from their home record as they have not lost a league match at Jan Breydelstadion for almost a year. Additionally, Porto could not find a winner against the Belgian side in Brugge’s last continental home game until the 92nd minute.

Although these stats give Brugge some hope, they are facing a Copenhagen side determined to reach the knockout rounds of the Champions League for the first time so I doubt the Danes will be suffering from complacency. Copenhagen know that if they win and Porto fail to beat group winners Leicester City, then they will go through thanks to their better head-to-head record.

As mentioned previously on my FC Copenhagen tips, goals are usually involved in their matches. They are unsurprisingly the top scorers in the Danish Superliga, which they lead by 11 points, with 45 goals in 20 matches. Many teams from weaker leagues are usually unable to transfer that kind of record to European football but Stale Solbakken’s team have managed to do so with five goals in five Champions League matches – although four of those came in the reverse fixture against Club Brugge.

You would usually expect a team from Denmark to be terrible at the back in Europe – particularly if their tactics place so much emphasis on attack. However, Copenhagen have done exceptionally well to concede just two goals in their five group matches – equaling Juventus and bettering Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Finally, going away will not worry The Lions as they have won five of their last five on the road.

With Copenhagen looking so confident and likely to be so determined to get the result against Brugge, I can only see one result here and would certainly look to back Solbakken’s men at very nice odds of 23/20.

As previously mentioned, goals are generally the order of the day with these two sides – for Copenhagen and against Brugge. This means that ‘Copenhagen to Win and Over 1.5 Goals’, at a very favourable 13/8, is an absolute steal. Even a slender 2-0 win for the Danish side would work out well here and the Danes are expected to do the business.
