Survival hopefuls host title contenders in this League Two clash as Cheltenham Town host Plymouth Argyle.

Cheltenham are currently sitting one place above the relegation zone in League Two but only by one point although it could have been a lot worse had they not won their most recent league match 3-0 at home to Accrington Stanley in a vital relegation six-pointer.

Goals have been the main reason why the Robins are stuck in the trouble they are in with their record of just 27 scored being the second worst in the division and worse than the two sides below them in the table. Furthermore, they have failed to register in two of their last three games.

Gary Johnson’s side are actually fairly well organised at the back having let 37 goals in. This is a better statistic than quite a few teams above them in the league as well as the two below them whilst the fact they kept a clean sheet in their last league match shows they are capable of doing so.

Home form has been pretty good for Cheltenham in the last few weeks with two wins in their last three in all competitions, including their most recent league victory against Accrington. The Robins had gone on a four-match losing streak prior to that win but they clearly can do well at home as shown by the fact they were five unbeaten before that luckless run.

Plymouth put in a heroic performance against Premier League title contenders Liverpool on Wednesday but found themselves on the end of an unfortunate defeat. In the league though, things have been going quite a bit better with Argyle currently sitting comfortably in the automatic promotion places, six points ahead of the dreaded play-off fight. This is thanks to an excellent recent run which has seen them win four of their last six league matches, recovering from a three-match losing streak.

The back-line has been the key to the Pilgrims success with just 27 goals conceded in 25 matches – the best record in the top three. This solid defence came to national prominence against Liverpool as they managed to limit one of the country’s best attacking sides to just one goal in 180 minutes.

Derek Adams’ side have scored a highly respectable 41 goals in the league this season but this is still some way behind the high standards set by first place Doncaster Rovers (52). However, their good performances at both ends of the pitch means they should gain automatic promotion this season.

After winning seven away matches on the spin, Argyle have hit a bit of a stumbling block on the road, losing two of their last three league games. Although, with the distraction of that big Liverpool match out of the way now, you can expect the Pilgrims’ away form to pick up once again.

Taking all of the above into account it’s hard to fancy the hosts against a Plymouth side who really do look the real deal at this level. The visitors should have the required quality to put their cup disappointment behind them by winning here. 11/8 seems a tad generous and is a price well worth taking on the away win.
