Chelsea – Watford. Laure James’ prediction
Chelsea host Watford on Boxing Day and we’re certain the Hornets will provide a tougher test than Sunderland.
Guus Hiddink returns to take charge of Chelsea for the second time, and his first match-day task will be to run a late fitness check on Eden Hazard’s hip. But he’s hardly who they’ll look to for goals, still having not scored since May for his club. Chelsea will throw their creative resources at this game, and all attention will be on whether this change in stewardship can trigger an ascent up the table.
Hiddink’s first game in charge of Chelsea the first time around was against Watford, and they ran out comfortable 3-1 winners. Back then, the opposition was Championship, but we think it will be a similar story.
Watford, meanwhile, have successfully staved off Premier League pressures, conceding just 16 goals this term, and have won each of their last four matches. Plus, and Ighalo and Deeney have scored a bucket-full. Chelsea will struggle to keep a clean sheet. Ladbrokes are offering both teams to score and Chelsea to win at 3.25.
