Angelique Kerber will play against Caroline Wozniacki in the semi-final of the US Open. An interesting match-up and a tough one to call. Something that does stand out, though, is that we could be in for a reasonably long game here. Both players are consistent and can dig deep in tough situations.

You can see how Kerber played against Vinci with her slow serve and without much confidence, whilst Wozniacki was also rather tame with her shots. I think the Dane will try to play a few high shots with a little bit of variety. This is a tactic that has generally proved a good one to use against Kerber.

As good as Kerber has been and can be, it is unlikely that she’ll win this match easily. Caroline is in good form and has plenty of big match experience to draw upon. As for the head-to-head record between these two, Kerber is 7-5 up currently.

It is of course the semi-final of a Grand Slam which adds tension and I think we could see quite a tentative start, with neither player wanting to make a mistake. The best bet is to go for ‘Over 20.5 Games’.
