These two Championship sides are sitting rather comfortably in mid-table but neither will harbour any hopes of play-offs whilst they are also probably safe for another season.

Cardiff have managed to pull themselves away from trouble in the last few weeks after a good run which has seen them lose just once in their last seven. However, they have stuttered a bit recently with no wins in their last four.

The Bluebirds’ main strength has been going forward and they have registered on the score-sheet in all of their last seven Championship games whilst their overall record of 50 goals scored betters all four of the teams in the play-off places. Defensively though they have had a problem with just seven clean sheets, and just one in their last six, as well as 53 conceded throughout the course of the campaign so far. Furthermore, they have problems at the back, particularly in the last part of games and have conceded an astonishing 19 goals in between the 76th and 90th minutes – nine of them at home.

Neil Warnock’s side have been on a good run at home in recent times with just one loss in their last six at the Cardiff City Stadium. Having said that, they have only picked up two points from a possible six in their last two on home soil. Plus, as mentioned above, they have a problem in the latter stages at the back.

Ipswich cannot seem to buy a win at the moment and currently sit 16th in the Championship. However, they are still seven points above the drop-zone and it is worth pointing out that they are on a run of draws (six in a row) rather than defeats and they have not lost in eight games.

Mick McCarthy’s teams have never been particularly spectacular and that is certainly the case with his Ipswich side this season who have the fourth-worst goal-scoring record in the division. They have also failed to score more than one goal in any of their last seven games. Defensively though, as you would expect from a McCarthy side, Ipswich have been decent at the back and have not conceded more than one goal per game in the last seven whilst their overall record of 44 against in 37 matches is also respectable.

The Tractor Boys had been terrible on the road until a few weeks ago but they have now gone on a five-match unbeaten run on their travels – although, again, they have mostly been draws.

The first bet I have gone for here is ‘Ipswich to Score Last’ at 15/8. Cardiff concede a lot of goals in the last quarter of an hour of games whilst Ipswich score a lot of theirs in that time, particularly away from home. A good accompaniment to that selection is also ‘Last Goal in between minute 76 and 90’.

In addition, with these teams not really going for anything this season, and neither looking great going forward, the draw at 5/2 definitely stands out, as does a 1-1 correct score at 13/2.
