Having turned things around of late, Bury, a team who were majorly on the slide not so long ago, look to have been presented with the ideal opportunity to continue their good form when playing host to Coventry City at Gigg Lane on Tuesday night.

As things currently stand in League One, Coventry are seemingly dead and buried. With 33 matches gone, the visitors are rooted firmly to the foot of the table and sit a massive 11 points from safety. Even with the game in hand that Russel Slade’s men have, it’s virtually impossible to feel optimistic about their chances of survival.

Given Coventry’s predicament, this really does look like an excellent opportunity for a Bury side who’ve turned a corner of late to continue putting distance between themselves and the dreaded drop-zone. At odds of 13/10 and 23/20 respectively, ‘Bury to Win’ and ‘Bury to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ are the two bets to go for here.

Although they were on a dismal run of form not so long ago, The Shakers have turned things around and have now lost just once in their last eight fixtures – and even that was a narrow defeat at the hands of an in-form Shrewsbury side. Lee Clark’s men come into this match having won three of their last four and have won two on the spin. Considering they were previously poor at the back, it’s rather impressive that Bury have kept three clean sheets in their last four and they’re starting to look far more solid.

Scoring goals has never been a problem for the hosts this season – with 51 to their name, only three teams in the entire division have scored more. Against a Coventry team who’ve conceded no less than 52, such a stat bodes well, as does the fact that Bury have scored at least twice on nine occasions in front of their own fans during this campaign.

Playing away from home has been Coventry’s biggest problem this season. The visitors have won just one of their 17 fixtures on the road and have lost 12 of the other 16, including three of their last five. They’ve managed to keep just one clean sheet and have conceded a total of 34 goals, shipping at least two on ten occasions.

If Russel Slade’s Sky Blues were to stand any chance of surviving in League One then they really needed to take all three points against relegation rivals Swindon Town last weekend. Considering they lost 3-1, things aren’t looking good.

Bury and Coventry are two teams who’re heading in different directions – Bury have addressed their problems and appear to be making progress week in, week out, whereas Coventry continue to spiral downwards. Not only have the hosts toughened up defensively, but in James Vaughan they have one the divisions’ deadliest strikers. As for the visitors, Coventry are anything but tough at the back, while they offer very little going forward, particularly on their travels.

All in all, when these two meet on Tuesday night, Bury can continue on the up by putting another nail in the Coventry coffin.
