This Championship match is a relegation clash between newly-promoted Burton Albion and Wigan Athletic – both of whom are in terrible form at the moment.

Burton are playing in this league for the first time in their history but are arguably making a good fist of it as they sit outside the drop-zone with 25 games gone. However, a poor recent run of five losses in their last six means they are only outside the bottom three by just a single point.

Despite this recent losing streak, overall, the Brewers have actually been pretty good at the back with their record of 34 conceded better than all the other teams in the bottom eight bar one. As expected with a newly promoted team, they do have problems going forward with just 26 goals scored, however, they are not afraid to have a go at teams and have scored in three of their last four Championship games.

Up until recently, it had been Nigel Clough’s side’s home form which had been serving them so well with no defeats since 17th September. Unfortunately for them though, they have now lost their last three at the Pirelli Stadium. Having said that, these defeats came against promotion-chasing teams.

Wigan are one of the most out of form teams in the country at the moment with just one win in their last ten games, taking just one point from a possible 21 since that last win back in November, placing them down in 19th and a huge six points off safety.

Going forward is certainly the biggest problem the Lactics have as they are the division’s lowest scorers having found the back of the net just 20 times in 25 outings. Conversely, they are pretty sound defensively and have the best ‘Goals Against’ record in the bottom nine with their total of 31 conceded bettering third place Reading.

Away form has been Warren Joyce’s men saving grace in recent times compared to their home form but even then it has been poor with just one point taken from a possible nine in the last three.

Although both teams have not been having a good time recently, I’m keen to back the home side at 27/20. The Brewers have shown in the past that they’re capable of turning teams over The Pirelli and they should be able to do so again against a lacklustre Wigan side.
