Liverpool are probably the biggest club to ever visit Burton Albion in a competitive fixture. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side should not expect an easy ride against a team who have rocketed up the leagues in recent years.

Burton Albion are now in the Championship after back-to-back promotions in the last two years. The Brewers have made an astonishing rise from non-league football in under ten years. Interestingly, Nigel Clough, who managed Burton all those years ago, is now back at the helm of the club.

The Staffordshire side have once again been entertaining to watch this season and there have been no fewer than three goals in any of their matches this season. They currently sit 18th in the Championship after one win, one draw and two losses.

As seen in their 4-3 win against Arsenal, Liverpool usually play in an equally entertaining manner. However, the price of this playing style is that the Reds are incredibly open at the back with the left hand side being a particular issue. So much so that versatile midfielder James Milner was playing at left back during their shock 2-0 loss at Burnley.

I doubt Klopp will put much effort into this competition, although they did get to the final last year, and will likely give a few youngsters and reserve players a chance to put pressure on first team places. The German has much bigger priorities than the League Cup – showing the shameful monopoly the money in the Premier League has over clubs.

As previously mentioned, Jurgen Klopp is likely to play a much weaker side whilst on the other side of the coin, Burton will probably field a full strength team and will be determined to secure a big scalp.

With this in mind I have gone for a shock Burton Albion win at 8/1. The Brewers are a good side capable of scoring and I expect them to take advantage of a dodgy Liverpool defence. One of the big clubs always gets knocked out in these early rounds and I expect it to be the Reds on this occasion.

A further bet to have on Burton would be for Tom Naylor to score anytime at 13/2. The right back is currently Burton’s top scorer with three goals and will likely cause havoc to Liverpool on set pieces.

If you are not so confident in the Brewer’s chances on Tuesday, there are some more neutral bets that are well worth a go.

The most likely of these is Both Teams to Score at 91/100. Both of these sides are a bit dodgy at the back but, for oen reason or another, are effective going forward.

We should see a bit of a goal-fest during this match and you can get Over 2.5 goals at 4/5 or Over 3.5 goals at 79/50 if you want to push the boat out a bit more.
