Borussia Dortmund v Borussia Mönchengladbach

Outside of the top-three is not where Borussia Dortmund want to be so the fact that they currently reside outside the top-six won’t sit well with Thomas Tuchel and his men, although they do appear to have a good opportunity to improve their standing when the welcome Borussia Mönchengladbach to Westfalenstadion on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts may be outside of the top-six currently, but their form hasn’t been at all bad of late, in fact, they were in excellent shape (nine games unbeaten in all-competitions) until they were beaten 2-1 by Frankfurt last weekend, although, considering that they too are a side in good form, there isn’t too much shame in that result. With four wins and two draws to their name, Tuchel’s side remain both unbeaten and a force to be reckoned with at home.

Gladbach, on the other hand, have failed to find any sort of form of late as their up and down campaign continues. The ship may have been steadied in recent weeks but they are without a win in six matches (all-competitions) and look as though they’ll be up against it here.

From a betting point of view, the selection that makes plenty of appeal here is ‘Dortmund to Score Over 2.5 Goals’ at odds of 13/10. With 13 goals to their name at Signal Iduna Park this season, the hosts have been in good scoring form and this could easily continue against a Gladbach side who’ve looked anything but sturdy at the back.

With the likes of Reus, Aubameyang, Götze, Dembele, Schürrle, alongside several others, Dortmund have an embarrassment of riches in the forward areas and it’s easy to see why they often make light work of scoring goals. On top of this, in all competitions, the hosts have notched three or more goals on eight occasions this season. If we consider this in conjunction with the fact that Gladbach have conceded at least three goals in three of their six away matches in the Bundesliga (four in seven if we count all-competitions), then it’s easy to envisage Dortmund considerably adding to their already impressive goal tally.

The hosts will undoubtedly be itching to make up for that defeat last weekend and back in front of their own fans, where they scored eight last time out, Gladbach might just struggle to keep them at bay.

Bayer Leverkusen v Freiburg

These two teams come into this fixture separated by just a single point in the table and, on paper at least, this certainly isn’t the easiest of fixtures to call.

By their own standards, the hosts will certainly be disappointed by their league standing, especially since they were so impressive in finishing 3rd last season. Having said this, it’s still early days and there’s plenty of time for them to improve. Freiburg, on the other hand, are likely to be relatively pleased with their position. They are eight points above the relegation zone, although their away form is a slight cause for concern.

With betting in mind, goals, in the shape of ‘Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals’, are the way to go in this fixture. Neither of these two teams have exactly done themselves proud defensively, while both look more than capable of being a significant threat going forward.

When playing at the BayArena, Roger Schmidt’s team have only failed to score on two occasions this season (in one they missed a penalty, while the other saw them go down to ten men early in the first half). In their other four home matches, Leverkusen have racked up a total of ten goals and have they’ve conceded nine, conceding at least once in four out of six.

As for the visitors, Freiburg have scored in all but one of their six away matches, scoring a total of eight goals on the road. Christian Streich’s men are also yet to play an away fixture without conceding – letting in a total 15 goals on their travels.

In addition to the encouraging stats above, three or more goals have been scored in four of Leverkusen’s five at home, while Freiburg are yet to play an away match where less than three three goals go in.

At the end of the day, this is a fixture between two teams who like to have a bit of a go (as a result they often pay the price defensively for doing so) and they are fancied to both find the back of the net in what is likely to be a high-scoring encounter.

Wolfsburg v Hertha Berlin

Wolfsburg v Hertha Berlin – two teams who’ve been in contrasting form clash at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday afternoon. This match, against an out-of-sorts Wolfsburg outfit, is an excellent opportunity for Hertha Berlin to continue their decent form.

The visitors have been one of the most impressive teams in the division this season and, with 24 points to their name, the club from the capital sit nicely in 3rd position. Although they are going well, it’s true that they haven’t exactly been imperious on their travels, but they face a Wolfsburg side who’ve struggled at home and could easily take advantage.

Wolfsburg have disappointed this season, there’s no two ways about it. Valérien Ismaël’s side are expected to be among the clubs challenging for European football, but right now they are some way off and are yet to show any real signs that a pleasing league position come the end of the season is within their grasp.

The bet to go for ahead of this fixture, at odds of 13/8, is ‘Hertha Berlin Draw No Bet’. The visitors come into this match in much the better form and, even though they will be without their captain Ibišević (suspended), they look to have enough about them to get a positive result.

The Berlin side have only lost two matches this season – one came away at Bayern, while the other one came away at the ever-impressive Hoffenheim. Outside of those two results, Hertha are unbeaten on the road and come into this match on the back of a decent win over Mainz last weekend.

Unlike the visitors, who did indeed record a solid victory last time out, Wolfsburg come into this fixture without a win in their last seven matches. On top of this, they’ve lost their last four (all-competitions) and could soon be in real trouble. Their main problem is the fact that they’re a side who likes to dictate possession on the front foot, but seem to lack a cutting edge in the final third – they’ve scored just ten goals this season, scoring only two at home. It remains to be seen whether veteran striker Mario Gomez can shoulder the weight of expectations upfront, while their supporting forward players aren’t really doing it either. Such problems bode well for Hertha, who will be more than happy to sit off and hit on the counter. Such a tactic has both served the Hertha well and hurt Wolfsburg on numerous occasions this season.

Right now Wolfsburg look a sorry state of affairs and a match against the well-drilled and in-form Hertha isn’t what’s needed. All things considered it’s hard to see the visiting team coming away from the Volksvagen Arena empty handed and thus they are worth backing on the ‘Draw No Bet’ market.
