Bristol City v Huddersfield Betting Tips: Wagner’s men to prove too strong

19:45/Mar 17

Football writer Thomas Giles previews the upcoming Championship match between Bristol City and Huddersfield Town.

These two Championship sides are chasing different aims in the league at the moment with Bristol City simply looking to survive whilst Huddersfield Town are still gunning for automatic promotion.

Bristol City secured a hugely important win away at fellow relegation candidates Wigan Athletic last time out to end a run of eight matches without a victory. This means that they are now just one point from safety whilst this win also extended their unbeaten run to three.

After basing so much of their play on the attack for the majority of the season, Lee Johnson’s side have sorted themselves out the back in the last few weeks and have conceded just once in their last three Championship matches. Unfortunately though, it seems that their attacking edge has gone and they have only scored twice in their last four games.

Home form is still a big problem for the Robins and over the course of the season they have taken just 25 points from 18 matches and this looks like it will not be improving any time soon with no win in their last three at Ashton Gate.

Huddersfield have recovered from their win-less run of three from the end of February to the beginning of March to win their last two matches by a 1-0 scoreline. This means that they are now just six points off the automatic promotion spots with a game in hand over the top two.

Earlier on in the season, the Terriers were famed for their matches involving a high number of goals and they recently went on a run where five matches on the spin contained at least three goals. However, it now seems that they are more prepared to grind out results with those two recent wins being a good example. It is certainly interesting to note that Huddersfield’s last three wins have come complete with clean sheets. Having said that, the attacking edge has not gone by any means and they’ve scored in each of their last ten matches in all competitions.

David Wagner’s men have been impressive away from home throughout the campaign and they have taken 30 points from 18 matches. It looks like this run is hardly going to come to an end any time soon with Huddersfield unbeaten in their last three away from the John Smith’s Stadium whilst they have also lost just once in their last nine Championship matches on their travels.

Huddersfield are the favourites here and with good reason. Although they have improved a bit lately, I cannot see Bristol City getting anything out of this one and am surprised that the away win is offered at odds such as 5/4 – a price that is worth snapping up.
