These two teams have different ambitions at opposite ends of the table with Brighton looking to clinch the Championship title and promotion to the Premier League whilst Wigan Athletic are looking to cling onto survival in the division.

After looking like second-favourites to Newcastle United for so long, Brighton now hold the advantage at the top of the Championship after four consecutive wins, giving them a four-point cushion over the Toon. Bookmaker Ratings predicted that this could well happen in a recent feature.

The Seagulls have been fantastic in both boxes throughout the course of the campaign. Firstly, they have the best defensive record in the division with just 35 conceded and a clean sheet ratio of 50% whilst they have also found the back of the net an impressive 71 times.

Home form has also been brilliant for Chris Hughton’s side and they have the best home points tally in the league with 51 points in 21 games. Their defensive prowess has been sublime at the AMEX Stadium with just 12 goals conceded and a clean sheet ratio of 57%.

Wigan are certainly making a good fist of survival and have taken maximum points from their last two matches, putting them just five points from safety with four games to go.

The Lactics have been poor in the final third throughout the season and have the second-worst goal-scoring record in the division with just 38 goals scored. However, they have found the back of the net six times in their last two matches which shows a huge shift in mentality. whilst the fact they have also conceded four in those last two games shows that they have abandoned their defensive solidity somewhat in favour of chasing victories.

Unfortunately for Wigan though, this tough match at title chasers Brighton is their first away match since this upturn in form. This of course has the potential to be a real momentum killer and the fact that Graham Barrow’s men have lost six of their last eight on the road in all competitions really goes against them here.

Although Wigan have been scoring a few goals recently, think this incredibly sturdy Brighton back-line should be able to hold out here. The Seagulls have a huge objective themselves and will not want to let that slip against Wigan. ‘Brighton to Win to Nil’ is well worth getting on.
