This Championship match is a rearranged affair after the postponement of the initial fixture back in December. However, circumstances have hardly changed since then with hosts Brighton & Hove Albion looking to stay in the automatic promotion spots whilst Cardiff City are hoping to stave off relegation.

Brighton managed to recover from their surprise loss against Preston North End a couple of weekends ago to win their most recent match against play-off contenders Sheffield Wednesday. This victory against the Owls extended Brighton’s lead over third place Leeds United to eight points with a game in hand. Furthermore, they are only one point off top spot and so a win against Cardiff City on Tuesday will see them top the Championship table.

I have written a number of tips involving Brighton this season, and with good reason as they are incredibly reliable. They have the best defence in the Championship having conceded just 18 goals in 26 matches which is an average of just 0.69 goals per game, whilst goalkeeper David Stockdale has the highest clean sheet record in the division out of the players who have played more than one game with his percentage of clean sheets standing 52%.

Furthermore, their attack has a lot of options as shown by their weekend victory over Sheffield Wednesday where Frenchman Anthony Knockaert showed that the Seagulls do not have to completely rely on veteran striker Glenn Murray for their goals.

Home form has been fantastic for Chris Hughton’s men and they have the best home record in the Championship by some distance having yielded 32 points in 13 matches at the AMEX Stadium this season, whilst they have also won their last four home matches, keeping two clean sheets in the process.

Cardiff find themselves in a rather fortunate position considering the dire start to the season they had, however, they acted quickly in appointing Championship veteran Neil Warnock as their manager which has allowed them to rise up the table to 16th, eight points away from the drop-zone. They are in pretty good form at the moment having won their last three league games, losing just once in their last eight Championship matches.

As expected from a Neil Warnock side, the Bluebirds are now defensively solid and have kept two clean sheets in their last three league matches. Their statistic of 40 goals conceded this season, which is one of the worst in the division, is rather false as they leaked a lot of goals at the start of the campaign – something which has now improved. This new found solidity at the back means that the Welsh side do not have to worry too much about their goal threat, which is not fantastic, however, they do have players who have good experience in this division.

Although they won their last match on the road, the Bluebird’s away record has been rather disappointing with just two points from a possible 12 in the four matches prior to their match at Griffin Park. Their sound defence seems to disappear on the road and Cardiff have not kept a clean sheet on their travels since their opening day 0-0 draw away at Birmingham City – before Warnock arrived at the club.

‘Brighton to Win to Nil’, at 8/5, is the way to go in this fixture. Cardiff may be improving but I just cannot see them getting anything from an even more in-form Brighton side who should be more than capable of keeping a clean sheet against a rather weak Cardiff front-line.
