The Bundesliga returns of Friday night as 2nd and 3rd in the table go head-to-head at Westfalenstadion.

Having been defeated by the ever-impressive Leipzig on match-day two, Dortmund appeared to have found their stride and were seemingly firing on all cylinders until they drew a blank (and lost 2-0) against Leverkusen just before the International break and it will be interesting to see how they react here. Hertha, on the other hand, could have hardly made a more pleasing start to the new campaign. With four wins, a draw and a loss (defeated away at Bayern), Pál Dárdai’s team are fast becoming one of the toughest teams to beat in this league and, against a Dortmund side who might not be as infallible as many people first thought, they can certainly cause problems.

In the betting Dortmund, as the hosts, are heavy favourites, although a brave punter might just be tempted to back the visitors in one capacity or another. However, while this may turn out to be highly profitable, there are a couple of goal related bets that catch the eye most.

Firstly, ‘Both Teams to Score’ is a hard one to ignore here. Both of these teams have proved themselves to be more than useful going forward and it would be a surprise if they weren’t capable of creating sufficient goal-scoring opportunities here.

With the pace and attacking players that Thomas Tuchel has at his disposal it’s very hard not to fancy Dortmund finding the net in front of their own fans. In fact, in the three home matches played this season, along with 17 last season, Dortmund have failed to score in front of a home crowd just once. Scoring goals, particularly at home, is something that appears to come natural to this side – 11 goals scored in three home games is testament to this. However, for all Dortmund’s offensive might, they haven’t looked the strongest at the back. The hosts have conceded in each of their last four competitive matches, letting in a total of six goals, as well as conceding in two of their three home matches so far this season. Against a Hertha Berlin side who enjoy playing on the counter, BVB could once again come unstuck defensively.

A second bet worth being on in this fixture is the combination bet of ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’. Having established that the chances of both teams finding the net in this one are pretty high, a reasonably high-scoring match also looks on the cards.

As already mentioned Dortmund are an exciting team to watch, they play attacking football and look to go forward at every opportunity. Unsurprisingly, other than Bayern, they’ve created the highest number of scoring chances at home this season (47). With all this in mind, it’s not surprising that they often find themselves in high-scoring matches – plenty of which involve both teams scoring. All four of their competitive home matches this season have seen three or more goals hit the net, while only two of their seven matches overall had less than three goals in total.

Hertha don’t stand out as much as Dortmund when it comes to high-scoring match stats – more than two goals were scored in 50% of their six matches this season – but this certainly shouldn’t deter punters. The way this match is likely to set up should favour goals, or at least goal-scoring opportunities. Dortmund will undoubtedly have the majority share in possession and, in all honesty, you’d expect them to do plenty with it. However, this means that counter-attacking opportunities should definitely open up for the visitors – something they are more than familiar with and, more importantly, can capitalise on.

All things considered, there is plenty to like about both of these two sides ahead of this match and high-scoring encounter, with goals for both, is expected.
