This Lancashire League One derby sees automatic promotion hopefuls Bolton Wanderers host relegation threatened Bury.

Bolton have dropped off the pace in their last couple of games taking no points from a possible six in their quest for automatic promotion. However, with them having a four point cushion over Fleetwood Town, another Lancashire team, who are in 3rd, they should still be returning to the Championship via the top two.

Defensive solidity has been the catalyst of the Trotters success this season and they have the best defensive record in the division having conceded just 36 goals in 43 games whilst they also have a clean sheet ratio of 35%. The two aforementioned recent losses are the first time that Bolton have failed to keep a clean sheet in three matches. Offensively, Bolton have also been pretty good with 63 goals scored overall. However, it must also be noted that they have found the back of the net one just one occasion in their last four games.

Phil Parkinson’s side have been very good at home in recent weeks with no losses in their last six at the Macron Stadium. Having said that, they have also won just one of their last four on home soil so perhaps there is optimism there for Bury.

Bury looked like they were pulling clear from relegation a few weeks ago, however, they have now lost their last three and failed to win in their last five, putting them just one point above the relegation-zone, although after Monday’s fixtures they could be back in the bottom four.

In complete contrast to Bolton, the Shakers have had a 43-game nightmare at the back this season with an alarming 72 goals conceded. The fact that they have let in eight in their last three is the polar opposite of the four preceding matches which saw them keep four clean sheets. Attacking wise though, Bury have been pretty good with 58 goals scored – equal with 4th place Bradford. Having said that, they have lost their goal-scoring touch recently with just one goal scored in their last five. This knack for scoring goals was potentially the only thing that could save them and now it has disappeared.

Away form has been a bit ropey for Lee Clark’s of late after two wins in his first two matches on the road. They have now not won in three, scoring just once and conceding five.

Bolton are the clear favourites here and it would be pretty foolhardy to back anything but a home win, despite their struggles of late. With Bury’s weak defence, Bolton should be able to really get at the visitors here, even with their defensive style. ‘Bolton Wanderers to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ is the bet to go for.
