On Friday night, a rejuvenated Bremen side travel to take on a Leverkusen team who’ve been floundering somewhat in recent weeks. Despite being away from home, this could be a better opportunity than it looks for the visitors to continue their decent form.

For a long time Bremen were struggling, especially from a defensive point of view, and were also touted as number one relegation candidates; however, although they’re not safe just yet, three wins on the bounce has seen them climb out of the drop-zone and the future is starting to look a little brighter at Weser-Stadion.

Considering the home side have now lost three matches on the bounce, conceding no less than 12 goals in the process, they appear to be majorly overpriced here. This fixture may be in front of a home crowd, but Roger Schmidt’s side have been performing nothing like odds-on favourites should and could quite easily come unstuck again. At the prices, the hosts are definitely worth taking on. Backing ‘Werder Bremen Win/Draw Double Chance’ is the way to go.

Since returning from their winter-break, Bremen really have turned a corner. It did take them until February to register their first win of 2017, but Alexander Nouri’s men were tasked with taking on both Dortmund and Bayern before that, matches that they lost by just a single goal, and played well in doing so. Since recording a pleasing 2-0 victory away at Mainz three weeks ago, Nouri’s side haven’t looked back and have now won three on the bounce, beating both Wolfsburg and Darmstadt in the process. Admittedly, these aren’t exactly the most notable scalps but in scoring six goals and conceding just one, Bremen have carried out their recent work in good fashion and are likely to be high on confidence – something that can’t be said for Leverkusen right now.

The hosts continue to face the same problem, they simply concede too many goals, and, against a Bremen side who’ve recently found their feet, it would be a bit of a surprise if this changed on Friday night. Schmidt’s men are capable of better, no doubt about it, but they’re definitely missing their creator-in-chief Hakan Çalhanoğlu – something that was evident more than ever during their 2-0 loss at home to Mainz last weekend.

Teams are working out that by playing on the counter, Leverkusen can really be got at – as all three of Mainz, Gladbach and Ingolstadt have shown when playing at the BayArena in recent times – and Bremen, with the pace of both Serge Gnabry and Fin Bartels, could quite easily produce the goods via a similar tactic.

With the way these two have been going of late, even though they’re on their own patch, Leverkusen are quite simply overpriced here. Therefore, ‘Werder Bremen Win/Draw Double Chance’ makes plenty of sense at odds of 7/5.
