Barcelona and Atletico Madrid rivalry can be called a one-sided game if we look into the last head-to-heads. The last time Los Colchoneros defeated Barca was almost two years ago. It was the 2nd leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on April 9, 2014, when Koke’s goal kicked the Catalans out of the European tournament.

Then, at the end of the 2013/14 season Atletico Madrid were crowned as champions of La Liga with the 1-1 draw against Barca on Gameweek 38. After that Barcelona started an incredible winning streak against los Indios. In the two legs of Copa del Rey in January, 2015 Luis Enrique’s team gave no chance to Atletico (1:0, 3:2). Then Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi secured a win for their team (3:1) in Primera game on January 11, 2015, while Atletico could respond with just a penalty from Mario Mandzukic. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season on September 12, 2015 Diego Simeone’s team was beaten 1:2 at Vicente Calderon. Barca’s Latin American attacking trio made the day again: Neymar and Messi both scored and Suarez made the assist.

The last match between these teams finished again with Blaugrana’s win. Messi and Suarez scored two goals in eight minutes in respond to Koke’s goal on January 30, 2016. Atleti’s Filipe Luis and Diego Godin were sent off in the second half. but the scoreline remained unchanged till the end of the match.

Before the loss to Real Madrid 1:2 in their last game, Barcelona were unbeaten in 23 games in the league and in 39 games in total. This is an incredible result driving Barcelona to the next Primera title. But it’s another story in the Champions League where anything can happen in two legs. As we remember, it was Atletico Madrid who ended Barca’s European campaign in 2014. Diego Simeone’s team is chasing the Catalans in La Liga, but it’s only the Champions League where they can challenge them.

Barcelona have one of the best attacking stats (87 goals in 31 games in La Liga) in Spain, while Atletico Madrid have the best defending stats (only 15 conceded goals in 31 games). In the Champions League los Indios conceded just three goals in eight games (all scored by Benfica). The numbers say that the bookies should prefer unders here.

But two Atletico Madrid centre-backs were injured during the international friendlies, and without Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez their defence is not that solid. Godin is expected to be back for tomorrow, but he started training just on Sunday. Diego Simeone tried to bank everything on the attack in the last game against Real Betis (5:1) and maybe he will not have any other choice against Barcelona on Tuesday. And we all know the result when somebody offers an open play to Barca. Goals, goals and then again goals.

Barcelona sacrificed el Classico to prepare for the Champions League and we all know that the European triumph is now their main goal. So, Suarez, Messi and Neymar will do anything (including bites!) to secure a home win. It’s pretty fearful to travel to Vicente Calderon with no comfort handicap even for the Catalans. So we back Barcelona to win and three or more goals in the game at 2.45.

The stakes are high for both teams. When the pressure is high, players’ nerves can break down. That’s why we expect nothing but a red card in the upcoming game.
