Having faced each other in the League less than two weeks ago, Atlético and Eibar go head-to-head once again as they meet in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.

When the pair took to the pitch in the league recently, it was Atlético who secured what might look like a routine 2-0 victory, although their hosts weren’t without chances and certainly have reasons to feel upbeat ahead of this one.

There are two bets that catch the eye here and these are: ‘Both Teams to Score’, at a particularly appealing 6/4, and ‘Eibar to Score Over 0.5 Goals’ at 5/4.

Thursday’s visiting team may have failed to find the net in their recent fixture against Atléti, but, as touched on above, their performance certainly wasn’t without promise and, in the different setting of the Copa del Rey, they can make amends.

In recent years, it’s often been unwise to back against a home clean sheet for Simeone’s men, but things have been a little bit different this season. While Los Rojiblancos have taken their attacking play up a notch, their rearguard doesn’t appear to be quite as menacing as it once was with teams often finding a way through – an occurrence that was vary rare indeed not that long ago.

The hosts have been by no means poor defensively, after all they still have the second best defensive record in the league, but in conceding seven goals in nine home matches, they’ve already conceded the same amount that they did in 19 at The Vicente Calderón in the entirety of last season. On top of this, they’re yet to keep a clean sheet at home in this year’s Copa del Rey.

Personnel in this fixture is also likely to be key. With Atléti facing a tough away trip to Bilbao on Sunday, they’re unlikely to be at full strength on Thursday night. José Luis Mendilibar may also decide to make changes to his side, but with the hosts missing some key players, this really is an excellent opportunity for Eibar to come here and have a real go.

In general the visitors have been performing well on the road of late, scoring at least once in each of their last five away matches, while they should come into this fixture full of belief having scored three on their travels at the weekend. The fact that both teams have scored in four of the last five Eibar away matches also bodes well.

Even with changes likely, the hosts should have more than enough to get on the score-sheet (they rarely fail to do so on home soil), but Eibar really shouldn’t be discounted. The visitors continue to prove that they have the weaponry to do damage in the final third and it would be no surprise if they’re heading back North with a goal in the bag on Thursday night.
