One of the final matches in Group E sees Roma, who have already sealed first place, travel to Astra who ideally need to pick up all three points to secure the second qualification spot ahead of Austria Vienna.

Astra snatched a dramatic last-minute winner against Austria Vienna in the previous round of matches thanks to a Constantin Budescu penalty. That penalty has put the Romanian side in pole position and they know that anything less than a win for Austria Vienna in their match against bottom side Viktoria Plzen, sends Astra through.

Whilst they have done well in the Europa League this season – especially recently with no defeats in three – Astra have been pretty atrocious in Liga I where they sit ninth, putting them in the relegation play-off places. Form has picked up a bit recently however and, despite suffering consecutive defeats in the last couple of weeks, Astra have won three of their last five.

Although they are in prime position, Marius Șumudică’s team may find that they have to win this match if results do not go their way. This is particularly bad as, not only are they facing a European giant in Roma, but, to make things worse, their home record has been the reason for their generally poor campaign so far. They have had just two victories in their last ten matches at Stadionul Marin Anastasovici whilst they are also yet to win a home match in the Europa League match this year which means their unwanted record stretches to just three home victories in 15 Europa League matches overall.

Roma are having quite the opposite season to their Romanian counterparts as, not only have they qualified easily from Group E with no defeats so far but, they are also second in Serie A, just four points off champions Juventus in top spot. There is no doubt that Luciano Spalletti’s side will be more desperate than ever before to claim the title they have lacked since 2001.

However, this match against Astra is probably a bit of a distraction and it will be interesting to see how Spalletti sets his team up for the game. Roma have a crunch match against AC Milan on Monday so there can be no doubt that I Giallorossi will have more than half an eye on that fixture and so we can expect the manager to rest players.

Away form is a slight concern for Roma with three out of their four defeats in all competitions this season coming away from the Stadio Olimpico.

Having said all that, even a weakened Roma team which has an average away record should be able to beat a poor-looking and very lucky (in terms of the Europa League) Astra side. With this in mind, the Roma win, at 7/5 is hard to resist. I can only think the reason for such a price here is the potential of a weakened team, however, Astra’s home form is poor and they will not be able to match Roma here. Punters should take advantage

Secondly, ‘Over 3.5 Goals’, at 2/1, is another good-looking selection. Even though Roma may play a weakened team, I think we could see a few goals given Astra’s poor defensive record which reads: no clean sheets in any of their Europa League Group Stage matches and just two shutouts at home in the league. Remember the reverse fixture finished 4-0 to the Italians back in September and, with Astra probably needing to win the game, this means the Romanians will be quite open and susceptible to punishment. I expect a similar scoreline here but Astra may end up sneaking one themselves which will only help your cause.
