One of Saturday’s Boxing Day Championship matches is a Midlands derby as Burton Albion visit Aston Villa.

Steve Bruce’s arrival at Aston Villa has certainly turned the club. Although they have suffered a couple of losses in the last few weeks, which ended Bruce’s unbeaten start as Villa boss, The Villains picked up a vital away win at Queen’s Park Rangers last weekend, lifting them up to 13th in the league and just six points off the play-offs.

Villa were leaking goals prior to Bruce’s appointment and the Geordie has certainly made his team a lot harder to beat. However, despite spending so much money on strikers in the summer, they are still struggling for goals.

Villa Park is arguably the most famous ground in the Championship and Villa have made it a fortress this season under Bruce and the former Birmingham manager is yet to lose a home match with his new team, winning four out of five games.

Despite being favourites for relegation from the Championship and currently sitting just one place above the drop-zone, Burton have impressed many onlookers this season with their attacking style of play which has seen them take scalps against some of the biggest sides in the division.

However, they have been on a bad run recently with three losses on the bounce. Whilst they do score a fair number of goals, The Brewers are suspect at the back as proved by the fact they have not kept a clean sheet since Bonfire Night.

Nigel Clough’s side certainly pick up most of their results at home and their form on the road has been abysmal with no wins all season. Whilst they were picking up valuable draws away from home at the start of the campaign they have now lost four out of their last five matches away from the Pirelli Stadium.

Given Villa’s good record at home and Burton’s poor record away, Villa should be winning this comfortably and without conceding, so ‘Aston Villa to Win to Nil’ is the way to go at 31/20.
