AS Roma in a great home form
Roma are having a wonderful season in the Europa League with nine wins, one draw, and one defeat in 11 games so far and after a very good win in the 1st leg in Amsterdam 2-1, Roma will fancy their chances of advancing to the Semi-Finals of the UEL.
Paulo Fonseca’s team prepared for this match by beating Bologna 1-0 at home on the weekend. This was their third win at home in five matches in all competitions. In the Europa League this season, Roma are undefeated at home in five matches with a very good scoring record of 14 goals in five matches.
Fonseca will hope they can maintain this home form and avoid any surprises that might result in conceding an early goal by Ajax something the Italian side haven’t done in three home matches in the UEL.
Ajax Amsterdam to fight for a comeback
Ajax will be disappointed by the 1st leg result. The Dutch side dominated the game and went ahead in the first half and missed a penalty to make it 2-0 but then conceded two goals. De Dodenzonen had 63% of ball possession and 15 goal attempts of which nine were on target.
This was Ajax’s only defeat in 26 matches in all competitions. An amazing run that has seen the Dutch side snatch the top of the Eredivisie by 11 points from their closest rivals PSV.
Ajax have already beaten Lille and Young boys on the road this season so they shouldn’t worry about this task. The Dutch side had scored two goals or more in their matches prior to the first leg in Amsterdam and have an average of two goals per game in five matches in the UEL this season.
Key Stats
- Eight of 11 Roma matches have seen over 2.5 goals
- Roma have scored in ten of their 11 matches in the Europa League
- Two or more goals have been scored in Ajax’s all five Europa League games
- Ajax have scored in all five of their matches in the Europa League
AS Roma vs Ajax Amsterdam Prediction
Roma have to be careful as they approach this match. With the Level and form of this Ajax team, they shouldn’t feel secure and be prepared for a force fight by the Dutch.
Ajax feel they didn’t deserve the defeat in the first leg and will be encouraged by their two away wins during the season against Ligue 1 leaders Lile and the Swiss league leaders Young Boys to go to Rome and play for the win.
We think it will be an open game since Ajax have to attack which may leave their defense vulnerable and we expect chances created by Roma on the break.
