Sunday’s early Premier League game sees two good footballing sides go head-to-head at the Vitality Stadium as AFC Bournemouth host Liverpool.

After remaining unbeaten for almost the whole of October, things have started to go a bit downhill at Bournemouth with The Cherries losing three out of their last four matches. However, boss Eddie Howe will still be relatively pleased that his side sit in a comfortable-looking 12th position.

Although they lost last weekend’s match to Arsenal, they actually put in a good enough display to take a point out of the game. The 3-1 scoreline certainly flattered The Gunners and it was only a couple of lapses in concentration which cost The Cherries. However, to take points against any team in the Premier League, never mind the best ones, you cannot afford to switch off.

Bournemouth’s fixture list does not get any easier this weekend as they welcome Liverpool to the Vitality Stadium. Having said that, their home form has actually been pretty good and they had gone four matches without defeat until their surprise loss to relegation candidates Sunderland back in early November.

Of course, as always with Bournemouth, it will be interesting to see how they set up against a Liverpool side capable of battering any team off the park. Will Eddie Howe stick to his open style of play and risk a thrashing or will he be a little bit more conservative and look to preserve a point?

The Cherries do have goals in the side and I think they will be looking to use this to their advantage on Sunday. It is certainly worth nothing that, despite recent losses, Bournemouth have scored in half of their last four matches whilst they have found the back of the net in every home match except one this season.

Liverpool are on a tremendous run of form at the moment having lost just the one match in any competition this season and even that was all the way back in August. This excellent first third of the season puts them in second position and just one point off Chelsea in top spot. Their entertaining style of play means they are probably the most exciting team to watch in the league. Whilst many have accused them of being very open and leaky at the back, this record has improved in recent games and they have kept clean sheets in their last three matches in all competitions.

Perhaps the best thing about The Reds in recent weeks is that they have found new ways to win instead of simply blitzing the opposition. This has been particularly evident in the last two games where they had to fight hard and be patient to record a win against Sunderland before they won a game they probably should have lost against Leeds United in the League Cup on Tuesday night.

They do of course have to adjust to winning without injured talisman Philippe Coutinho, but I think they have enough firepower in the side to compensate.

I am once again expecting a Liverpool win here but am not convinced they will keep a clean sheet against a Bournemouth side who are very good going forward, particularly at home. It is no great surprise that The Reds kept a clean sheet in their last two matches given the calibre of opposition and I think they may revert a bit to type here. With this in mind, ‘Liverpool to Win & Both Teams to Score’, at 9/4, is an excellent-looking bet here.

Again, looking at Bournemouth’s back-line and their open style of play, I think Liverpool should win relatively comfortably, or at least score several goals, and thus ‘Liverpool to Win by Two Goals or More’ is certainly worth a go at 7/5.

Finally I have gone for a correct score bet of ‘Bournemouth 1-3 Liverpool’ at 14/1. It’s hard to think that Liverpool won’t score a decent number against Bournemouth but, as previously mentioned, Bournemouth have enough about them to sneak a goal given their good goal-scoring record at home.
