With the exception of Ricky Walden, the first day at China Open won’t see the top players. So, I opt for a modest acca. For the first one, I pick the victories of Matthew Stevens and Xiao Guodong. Matthew is fourth from the bottom ten in the rankings. He has not lost his class, but his results have declined. It’s not too late to fight for a comeback. Marco Fu won (6:0), so did John Higgins (6:2). Mark Williams had to win so that our yesterday’s accumulator would win, too. But he lost after leading 5:3, and in each of the three remaining frames he had an advantage. He was leading 69:0 for a while in the one of them. I’m sad not about the lost bet, but about the loss of one of my favourite players. The fifth match day isn’t full of interesting bets. In four of the 16 matches held on the first day favorites were defeated. In two cases, the loser was from the top-16. Michael White lost to Sidney Wilson, who showed a very good game. And Ding Junhui surprisingly lost to an amateur Adam Duffy (albeit former pro) with a crushing score of 2:6, playing frankly weak. This should warn against big accumulators despite our yesterday’s four-event parlay won with  2.75 odds. I will not offer bets on morning matches for various reasons. Even if the BR manages to publish my predictions before the matches, there will be little time…
