Scott McTominay reveals what Lisandro Martínez told him after winning World Cup

Scott McTominay has revealed what Lisandro Martínez told him in a text message after winning the World Cup with Argentina.

Martinez helped Argentina win the Qatar World Cup following a 4-2 win over France on penalties.

The 24-year-old moved to Manchester United from Ajax over the summer but wasted no time to settle well at Old Trafford.

His playing style has not only helped improve United’s backline but has also made him one of the most liked players at the Theatre of Dreams.

Martinez brings his fighting spirit and commitment into every game and as a result, there are suggestions that he could help Manchester United win a trophy or two this season.

And he’s hinted that he’s not getting carried away by his World Cup success during a text he sent to McTominay.

Speaking ahead of United’s game against Burnley in the Carabao Cup, McTominay said: “I messaged Lisandro [Martinez] the other day & said congratulations. He said ‘We go for the next one’.

“He’s just won a World Cup, so that shows the mentality in the group.”
