Revealed: Marcus Rashford’s Iconic Goal Celebration Finally Demystified

Marcus Rashford’s form of late has been nothing short of breathtaking, and the England international has seen his celebration copied by a number of different players in recent weeks.

The 25-year-old has registered 17 goals and six assists for Erik ten Hag’s side so far this season, after returning from the World Cup with a bang. Since the restart of the league season after the World Cup, Rashford has celebrated every goal in the same way, and it appears unlikely to change.

After scoring every goal, Rashford runs towards the Corner-kick area, then points his finger to his head. The exact reasoning behind his celebration still remains unclear, but it hasn’t stopped several rival players using it in recent days and weeks.

Bayern Munich ace Joshua Kimmich celebrated in the same manner after scoring a 90th-minute equalizer against Koln on Tuesday, with the Germany international having smashed home from almost 30 yards out before putting his index finger to the side of his head.

Joelinton, meanwhile, also celebrated in a similar fashion after finding the back of the net against Southampton in the Carabao Cup semi-final. The Brazilian star scored the winning goal against the Saints on Tuesday.

While Rashford is yet to explain the notion behind his new found iconic celebration, there have been suggestions that it could be something to do with his comments about his recent mental health struggles. The Englishman, who has earned widespread praise for his charitable work in recent years, opened up about his feelings in October.

“I was struggling at times with more mental things,” Rashford told Sky Sports. “It wasn’t really my own performance but other things off the pitch. That’s the biggest difference from last season. Too often last season, I wasn’t in the right headspace for games. I wasn’t surprised by some of the stuff that was happening.”

Given that Rashford now appears to be in a better space mentally, his brave comments about his struggles have led to suggestions that his increasingly iconic celebration is a reminder of the importance to believe in yourself and look after yourself in difficult moments.

The United forward is undoubtedly in the form of his life, and Reds supporters will be hoping to see him pull out his celebrations on many more occasions before the end of the campaign.
