Messi scored his 644th goal for Barcelona

Messi has broken Pele’s record for goals for one club.

Barcelona striker Lionel Messi scored another goal in the match of the 15th round of La  Liga against Real Valladolid. This goal went down in football history.

The goal in the 65th minute of the match was 644th for the 33-year-old Argentinian player in a Barcelona shirt.  

Thanks to this, he was able to break the record of the legendary Brazilian striker Pele for the number of goals for one club. Pele scored 643 goals for Santos FC, based in Brazil.  This record has been unbreakable for 46 years.
It took Messi 17 years to achieve this.  He has been playing for FC Barcelona since 2003.  Pele played for Santos from 1956 to 1974.

In the 2020/21 season, Messi has scored ten goals and made five assists in 18 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions.
The match between FC Barcelona and Real Valladolid eventually ended with a score of 3:0.
As well as Messi, Clement Langlet and Martin Braithwaite also scored.
