Joan Laporta fires back at Lionel Messi’s brother’s statement.
FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta has addressed recent remarks made by Lionel Messi’s brother, Matias, regarding the star player’s potential return to the club this summer. In a Twitch broadcast, Matias expressed his skepticism about Messi’s return to Barcelona and even stated that Laporta would need to be “thrown out” first.
However, in a press conference held on Thursday, Laporta brushed off the importance of Matias’ remarks and emphasized that Messi is an integral part of Barcelona’s history and heritage. “Leo Messi is a part of Barcelona’s patrimony and we are proud of it,” said Laporta. “He is the best player in the world and in history. I don’t want to comment on a footballer who is currently at another club.”
Laporta went on to say that he does not take Matias’ remarks seriously and that the issue has been resolved after an apology from Matias. “I take away all the importance of the thing with his brother and he has apologized. Everything he has said is understandable and I don’t think about it anymore,” he added.
It remains to be seen whether Messi will return to Barcelona this summer, as his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires on June 30.
However, Laporta’s recent remarks suggest that the door is still open for the legendary player to make a return to the Catalan club.
