Inter Milan Pursues Barcelona Midfielder Amidst Reports of Discontent
Inter Milan has reportedly shown interest in bringing back Franck Kessié to Serie A after the club and Barcelona considered a swap involving Marcelo Brozovic in the January transfer window. Despite the player’s entourage denying the reports as “fake news,” La Gazetta Dello Sport claims that there have been some discussions between the parties.
Kessié, who has been in touch with his former teammate Hakan Calhanoglu, has been urged by the latter to join Inter Milan. The club had previously attempted to sign the Ivorian midfielder on a free transfer when it was clear he would leave their crosstown rivals, but better wages and his agent ultimately led him to join Barcelona.
The midfielder is reportedly unhappy with his current role at the club and could play a crucial role if he were to transfer to Inter Milan. While a swap with Brozovic is not necessarily off the table, the Croat is expendable due to financial reasons and concerns over his lengthy recoveries from injury.
However, Kessié may have to agree to a lower salary in order to return to Italy, as he currently earns €7M per year. The player is likely to push for a transfer unless he secures a regular starting position, having started just once since the World Cup break.
With players eager to change clubs when they find themselves in unsatisfactory situations, Kessié’s price tag is expected to remain high, making it more likely for him to join a wealthy Premier League club or Paris Saint-Germain, rather than return to Serie A.
