Inter Milan Braces for Upcoming Talks with Chelsea in Fresh Round of Negotiations
Inter Milan has made contact with lawyer Sebastien Ledure, who represents Romelu Lukaku, as the club begins negotiations to extend the striker’s stay in Milan. Although it’s widely expected that Lukaku will continue past his current season-long loan, Inter and Chelsea will need to come to an agreement for it to happen.
According to La Gazetta Dello Sport , the talks are set to take place after Inter’s two Champions League matches with Porto in March. Despite Lukaku’s lack of shining form due to injury, Inter remains eager to retain him as their top priority. The club was offered Roberto Firmino as a replacement, but their focus is on reaching an agreement to keep their current striker.
Lukaku himself is reportedly determined to stay at Inter, which should simplify the negotiations, much like it did last summer. Inter is seeking to renew the loan while paying a reduced fee, after having spent €8 million to bring Lukaku to Milan this season. The club’s ideal scenario is to cut the fee in half.
TuttoSport reports that Inter’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, is in London to discuss several matters, including a potential meeting with the Chelsea hierarchy.
The sale of Denzel Dumfries is expected to be discussed, as well as the candidacy of Norberto Neto to become the club’s new deputy goalkeeper.
